How is a home appliance 3D model produced?

  1. CAD preparation: The brand's manufacturing CAD files (STEP, IGES, SolidWorks) are collected. CAD data carries millions of polygons for manufacturing and cannot be used on the web directly.
  2. Retopology and optimization: The model is rebuilt for the web while preserving the visual silhouette, targeting a polygon budget that runs smoothly on mobile devices.
  3. PBR texturing: Brushed stainless direction, glass reflection and plastic surfaces are defined through physically based rendering material channels. Variants are derived at this layer.
  4. Format output: glTF/GLB is produced for the web and Android, USDZ for iOS AR Quick Look. Both formats come from the same source asset.
  5. Integration: An embedded viewer and AR trigger are added to the product page, and variant selection is wired to the store platform's variant structure.

Can AR really verify dimensions for built-in appliances?

Yes. GlareAR models are derived from manufacturing CAD data, so they carry real dimensions and are placed into the AR scene at 1:1 scale. A shopper can point their phone at the counter and see whether the product fits the cutout. Measurement precision depends on the device's AR sensors and can deviate by centimetres, so GlareAR recommends keeping a dimension table on the page as well.

How long does it take to produce a 3D model of an appliance?

It depends on CAD quality and variant count. With clean CAD data available, production for a single product takes a few working days; if no CAD exists and the model must be rebuilt from reference photography, it takes longer. A firm timeline requires scoping against the product range and file inventory.

How many colour variants can be derived from one model?

In practice there is no limit. Variants are material-layer changes rather than geometry changes, so stainless, black glass, white and anthracite bodies all derive from the same geometry. Variants with different geometry, such as a different handle, count as separate model work.

Do 3D models slow down the product page on mobile?

Not when implemented correctly. GlareAR produces models with compressed geometry and textures, and the viewer lazy-loads: the model file downloads only once the shopper interacts with the viewer, so the initial page load is unaffected.
